Pint of Wine Theatre Company presents Queen Of The Mist

Words and Music by Michael John LaChiusa

Pint of Wine Theatre Company's acclaimed production of Michael John LaChiusa's Queen Of The Mist comes to the Charing Cross Theatre for a strictly limited seven-week season from 15 August to 5 October 2019. Queen Of The Mist, which received its UK premiere in a sold-out run at the Jack Studio Theatre in April, is based on the astounding and outrageous true story of Anna Edson Taylor, who in 1901 on her 63rd birthday set out to be the first person to survive a trip over Niagara Falls in a barrel of her own design. With a soaring score that incorporates turn of the century themes with LaChiusa's insightful and engaging style, this award-winning musical is the story of how one woman risked death so that she could live.

The original 2011 Off-Broadway production of Queen Of The Mist won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical and was nominated for six Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Musical.

Brilliantly acted and sung. Unusual subject for a musical but it worked. No really memorable songs though. Act 2 was quite challenging but it was thought provoking and lifted the show above the usual musical fare.

Dunmore

Good book, good singing, music ok.

Norah Keating

Queen of the Mist is exceptionally well-written and produced. It has powerful messages about pride and poverty and risk and the fragility of fame. The music connects seamlessly with the dialogue and actors and musicians did a fine job throughout. This production is worthy of a much larger venue but as a member of the audience, I enjoyed the intimate nature of the theatre.

DR NAGUI GENDI

enjoyed it. The music and singing was great

Gutian Zou

Amazing music, professional

Michael Williamson

This was an unusual subject beautifully and enthusiastically presented by a small but very energetic cast who worked well together as a team. The pace was fast and the score was catchy. this was the first time that I had visited the theatre in its 'in the round' arrangement and I thought that this helped with this presentation. Well done to everybody concerned.

jennifer wootten

excellent show, well performed and singing very clear and easy to hear

Shyama Bharat

Good value! Good show!

neil dalrymple

Not a great show (any possibility of Bernarda Alba, which I much enjoyed at the Union several years ago?) but it was very well-performed by all the cast (it would be interesting to know how often last night's double cast-change has happened as it was all very slick).

Sonia Hall

Lovely little musical well performed, quaint little theatre throughly enjoyed and well worth a visit and the £13 paid

Risa Shinkai

It was interesting show, good cast. And we can watch it close to actors

My friends and I went to watch the production with an 'open book' - we weren't sure what to expect. The theatre is very intimate and well located. The actors/singers/musicians were fantastic and overall thought it was a great and professional production with huge imagination. The only point I would make is the Queen of the Mist's death was over-long and drawn out - could have cut 10 mins or so. Good value for money entertainment.
