That’s actually what me and Leah came here to talk to you about. Look- there’s no easy way of saying this, but… Leah and I are getting married.
The dresses are chosen, the venue’s been booked and the RSVPs are flooding in. But with her wedding to Leah drawing nearer, Tara’s future is thrown into jeopardy when her Nigerian parents refuse to attend. This kind of love is unheard of, they say. It’s not African.
High above London, suspended between the stars, three of Tara’s ancestors are jolted from their eternal rest. Stubborn and opinionated, they keep watch as family secrets are spilled and the rift widens between Tara and her parents. Can these representatives of generations passed keep the family together? And will Tara’s decision ever get their blessing?
An epic family drama played out between the heavens and earth, The High Table is the hilarious and heart-breaking debut play from Temi Wilkey.

Very moving story. I found the drumming and main character far too loud, but everyone acted their heart out, if a little hard to understand at times. I cried at the end. Great to see the audience dancing like that and absolutely loved the wedding gear. Was hoping for a High Table laden with amazing African goodies. Never mind. It was comfortable, easy to see and a very nice way to spend the afternoon. Thank you. Could have done without quite so many very loud noises.
Incredible play!
Funny, moving, interesting.
Great play, great acting, great set. Thoroughly enjoyable show. I was left feeling the important of family support/love & the importance of being yourself, even if it doesn’t conform to what others (family & friends) want you to be.
The writer uses a clever device to differentiate between dual characterisation. Thought provoking play, thoroughly engaging and the humorous spikes do not detract from the seriousness of the subject matter.
Can l extend my gratitude to the cast & crew for a wonderful night out. Yesterday evening my friend and l saw The High Table by Temi Wilkey @ The wonderful Bush Theatre. It was a marvellous debut play in which the cast were fabulous. The story was a tale l am all too familiar with and the emotion it evoked was visceral. Heartwarming and heartbreaking in equal measure. It was carefully crafted, cleverly written and exceptionally played. Beautiful, touching and brutally honest. Congratulations Temi. Well done Bush Theatre. We need more of this marvellous theatre and it definitely gets my seal of approval. Akin X
Loved this play, great cast
The play was very engaging, sensitive matters but with a bit of comedy. The actors were fantastic and really brought it to life. The drumming was impeccable.
